HTML Link Colors

By default, a link will appear like this (in all browsers):

  • An unvisited link is underlined and blue.
  • A visited link is underlined and purple.
  • An active link is underlined and red.

You can change the link state colors, by using CSS:

Example

Here, in the below example an unvisited link is green in color with no underline. A visited link will be pink with no underline. An active link is yellow and underlined. In addition, when mousing over a link (redlink: hover) it will become red and underlined:

<!DOCTYPE html>
<html>
<head>
<style>
.redlink:link {
color: green;
background-color: transparent;
text-decoration: none;
}
.redlink:visited {
color: pink;
background-color: transparent;
text-decoration: none;
}
.redlink:hover {
color: red;
background-color: transparent;
text-decoration: underline;
}
.redlink:active {
color: yellow;
background-color: transparent;
text-decoration: underline;
}
</style>
</head>
<body>
<h2>Link Colors</h2>
<p>You can change the default colors of links</p>
<a class=”redlink” href=”html_images.asp” target=”_blank”>HTML Images</a>
